avathArikai (Introduction)
When asked “What is the fault if this is not the case?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains.
sUthram 426
allAdhapOdhu prApya prApangaLukku aikyam illai.
Simple Explanation
Otherwise, there is no union of the goal and the means.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
allAdhapOdhu …
That is – instead of having AchArya as the matching means for the goal, if we had ISvaran as the means, there is no union between the goal and the means. The same union between the goal and the means which is present in prathama parvam (initial stage), is applicable for charama parvam (ultimate stage) also; that is why piLLai amudhanAr mercifully attributed the goal and the means in the same person (emperumAnAr) as said in rAmAnusa nURRandhAdhi 45 “pERu onRu maRRu illai nin charaN inRi appERu aLiththaRku ARu onRum illai maRRu achcharaN anRi” (There is no benefit greater than your divine feet. There is no means other than your divine feet to lead us to that benefit).
