avathArikai (Introduction)

When asked “If bhagavAn unconditionally accepts in this manner, instead of accepting everyone, why is he accepting AzhwAr only?” nAyanAr says “The prideful acts based on the ISvarathvam (control over all) of bhagavAn who is uncontrollably independent cannot be analysed/questioned” and explains it with a worldly example.

Simple Explanation

We cannot analyse/question the acts of the royal elephant and the king.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

That is – in a kingless kingdom, when the royal elephant is blindfolded and sent in search of a new king, whoever is picked by the elephant becomes the king; at that time, asking it why it chose this person while so many others are there;

When a king accepts a woman as his consort, out of his pride, asking him why he chose this woman while so many others are there; there is no one to analyse in these matters.

With this, it is explained that – as said in SrIvaikuNta sthavam 55 “svAthanthryam aiSvaram aparyanu yOjyamAhu:” (Your independence is said to be not questionable by anyone), sarvESvaran is having unquestionable independence and is able to place anyone anywhere in samsAram or paramapadham, being “svAdhIna bandha mOkshan” (Being able to bind or free at his own disposal); similar to the royal elephant and king, unconditionally act according to their desire, when bhagavAn accepts a few AthmAs as AzhwArs, among all of those who are at his disposal and for his purpose, our of his pride due to his supremacy, out of his desire, for his own purpose, we cannot analyse saying “While all these AthmAs are there, why is he selecting just this AthmA?”
