Meaning
Even though, in the state of liberation, the distinctions such as those between dhEvas and humans, and those arising from desire, anger, and the like, disappear, and all souls become perfectly alike in their essential nature so that no distinction can be pointed out in any respect…

Meaning
Just as gold pots, gems, grains of rice, and similar objects may have the same size, weight, and shape, yet remain distinct, so too the distinction among the essential natures of liberated souls is established.
Explanation
The opponent’s doubt
A doubt may be raised.
If the distinctions arising from dhEvas, humans, and other embodiments, as well as distinctions such as desire (kAma) and anger (krOdha), disappear in mOksha, then all liberated souls possess an absolutely identical nature.
If they are alike in every respect, how can their distinct individuality (Athma-bhEdha) still be maintained?
The reply
piLLai lOkAchAryar answers this through an illustration.
Consider:
- gold pots,
- precious gems,
- grains of rice,
and similar objects.
Even when they are identical in:
- size (parimANa),
- weight (edai),
- and form (AkAra),
and no distinguishing characteristic can be externally pointed out, they are nevertheless accepted as numerically distinct objects.
Application to liberated souls
Similarly, although liberated souls are completely alike in their essential nature and no differentiating attribute can be identified among them, their individual existence remains distinct.
Therefore, svarUpa-bhEdha (the distinction of individual selves) is established even among liberated souls.
